Hentai Terms – Japanese Origins & Evolution
What’s really interesting is that the word hentai is actually a complete misnomer (at least the way we use it in English). The definition most people associate it with is dirty cartoons. It’s an abbreviation of “hentai seiyoku” which means “abnormal sexual desires.”
1. Japanese Origin:
In Japan, the word “hentai” translates to “pervert” or “perverted,” and it is a broader term that encompasses various sexual or deviant behaviors. So if you use the word in Japan, people will look at you funny. Originally, hentai referred to any form of sexually explicit or adult content. It wasn’t just manga or anime, but all forms of sexual perversion (media or otherwise).
Hentai could also include explicit written material or adult-themed artwork.
2. Introduction to the Western World:
As anime and manga gained popularity worldwide, hentai became synonymous with animated pornography, particularly in Western countries. This shift in meaning occurred due to cultural differences, interpretations, and the specific interests of Western audiences.

Now, What You’ve Been Waiting For … Hentai Terms!
Ahegao (アヘ顔) – The face you make during orgasm. Specifically flushed cheeks, eyes rolled up, mouth open, and tongue sticking out because it’s so good.
Bakunyū (爆乳) – Really big breasts, so big that it can only be achieved through surgery. The literal translation is “exploding breasts”. The next stage would be “chōnyū” where the size is impossible.
Bishoujo (美少女) – Means “pretty girl”. This usually translates to young, attractive, anime-style females within Japanese media. This is often referred to in bishoujo-style figures or bishoujo games within the visual novel and galge genre.
Bishōnen (美少年) – Means “beautiful boy”, sometimes abbreviated to “bishie”. It’s a Japanese aesthetic concept of the ideally beautiful young man: androgynous, effeminate, or gender-ambiguous.
Bukkake (ぶっかけ) – Yeah, this act of covering someone in semen isn’t just for live-action porn. Where do you think the word came from anyway?
Chinran (産卵) – A fetish where an alien or monster impregnates a woman she bears the offspring, usually in the form of eggs – hence the translation “egg laying”. A company called “Primal Hardwere” actually makes dildos (called Ovipositors) that mimic this fetish by inserting gelatin-like eggs through a hole in the toy.
Diipu kisu (デイープキス) – A French kiss.
Dojikko (ドジっ子) – A cute girl who is usually quite clumsy. This often causes harm to others.
Doujinshi (同人誌) – Also called “doujin” is self-published work that can be anything from manga, magazines, novels, and more. It’s also used for self-published hentai fanfiction.
Ecchi (エッチ) – When referring to porn it means “softcore” and not dirty enough to be considered true hentai. Sometimes called “H-manga.”
Eroge (エロゲン) – Comes from the words “erotic games” and is used to describe sexual video games of varying degrees of spiciness. These can be dating Sims, visual novels, or even combat or management games. But there’s always sex involved and often the look is very manga.
Did you know that you can connect sex toys to hentai games?
Yep, thanks to technological advances in the sex toy industry, we have plenty of doodads and whatnots inside these toys that allow someone to sync their toy to a porn game so it becomes an interactive experience.
But, keep in mind, it can’t be any old hentai game. It needs to be something the developer/publisher has partnered with a sex toy brand to make the software that allows this syncing. Because they literally need to go through the scenes and code the event so the toy acts accordingly.
For example, if it’s a soft, romantic part, the toy would vibrate gently. But if things get harder or if it’s an intense moment, the toy would vibrate (or contract, oscillate, thrust, rotate, etc.) at higher levels. This takes Eroge (エロゲン) to entirely new levels!!!
If you want a sex toy that gives an interactive porn or hentai game experience, Lovense has plenty of options and amazing deals!
Futanari (二形 / ふたなり) – Characters with both sets of genitalia (including breasts). “Double form” = Hermaphrodites.

Kuikomi (食い込み) – “Flossing” by pulling a girl’s panties tights and moving them back and forth to stimulate her.
Rūzu Sokkusu (ルーズソックス) – “Loose socks”. Many words in Japanese are a verbal adaptation of their English counterparts. In this case, it means the schoolgirl uniform socks that don’t quite stay up.
Meganekko (めがねっ子) – A genre where a girl wearing glasses is more attractive. Often shy, bookish, or submissive.
Moe (萌え) – Slang for the feeling of affection or adoration towards fictional anime characters, particularly those portrayed in a sexually innocent or cute manner. It emphasizes an emotional connection or attraction, rather than explicit sexual content (but not always).
Nikutai kaizō (肉体改造) – Changing the body through science or surgery, sometimes to have extra body parts likes breasts, etc. (think Total Recall and the three-boobed woman). Harder versions of this fetish can involve amputation or turning someone into an everyday object like a table or even darker avenues.
