Anyone who has experienced fantastic oral sex knows the joys of a flicking tongue. However, sometimes there’s no one around to lend a helping hand or mouth.
That’s where tongue vibrators come in handy.
However, (like anything in the sex toy market) it’s a matter of weeding out the good from the bad.
Let’s look at how you can be smart while you’re shopping…
WHAT’S A TONGUE VIBRATOR??
These little guys are trickier than other vibrators because the term can be divided into two groups…
1. ORAL SEX RINGS – Small vibrators attached to loops that fit around the tongue during oral sex. They are similar to (or exactly the same as) cock ring vibrators.
2. VIBRATORS WITH TONGUE-LIKE ENDS – Take a vibrator and add a tongue attachment to the end and use it to simulate the act of someone flicking your clit.
The second version might be a little more difficult to wrap your head around, especially since they can’t do what a real tongue can achieve. However, they’re like any sex toy – not everyone has access to a live partner, batteries last longer than a real tongue, and sometimes it’s nice to play with different sensations.
MAKE SURE IT’S SAFE
Like any sex toy, you have to watch out for the poorly made ones.
Granted, you might just want a cheap, one-time-use toy that you can throw away after the weekend or evening is done (and there’s nothing wrong with that), BUT that doesn’t mean you should settle for something SO cheap that you’ll end up with allergic reactions or chemical rashes.
WHAT’S SAFE – Silicone, stainless steel, titanium, sealed wood, seal ceramic, and ABS plastic are all non-porous and considered quite body-safe in the world of sex toys – Silicone will be your go-to with a tongue vibe.
What’s porous? It means that any and all bodily fluids, other fluids, and bacteria will be stuck in micro-crevices within the materials.
WHAT’S MAYBE SAFE – TPE/TPR rubber is “safe”, but it’s very porous and therefore impossible to sterilize. But, if you just plan on using it for a couple of days, only with one partner, and throwing it away, then it will be fine.
WHAT’S NOT SAFE – Jelly is one of the worst and should be avoided at all costs. The same goes for PVC, silicone blends, SEBS, silica gel, vinyl, etc.
UNDERSTAND MOTORS AND BATTERIES
An important thing to remember is, the smaller the toy, the less room for a strong motor or lengthy play. This is more aimed at the smaller tongue rings, which will last for only a couple of hours (or far less in most cases).
NOTE: If you or your partner is a power queen, you’re not going to get the kick you’re hoping for.
As for the second kind, the larger casings will give you room for bigger motors, but if the tongue part of the toy is just a silicone extension, some of the vibrations won’t flow down to the end, resulting in less stimulation at the tip and a stronger concentration wherever the motor sits.
In short, you might enjoy them, but don’t expect miracles from these toys.
MADE FOR NOVELTY
It seems that this toy doesn’t get a lot of designer love – and any current attention ends up delivering a toy that feels more novelty than serious. I mean, we have plenty of high-quality cock rings, why not have the same for tongue rings?
What does this mean for you?
Be extra careful when you’re shopping online and read ALL the manufacturing details.
Here’s an example…
THE LING O, BY SCREAMING O
Just by looking at this, we immediately get the “novelty” flag waving. Regardless of whether it looks legit or not, we need to see what material it’s made from.
- Harmony says it’s silicone, but I’ve never seen silicone that see-through without unsafe additives or the company just plain lying
- Amazon doesn’t say a word. There’s nothing except a vague disclaimer about checking out the manufacturer for “more information”
- WalMart says it’s Jelly
- SimpliPleasure claims it is rubber and that you should only use it once then throw it away
This is for the exact same product.
Out of all of them, SimpliPleasure offered the most information. HOWEVER, no one can decide on what it’s made from. This tells me one simple thing …
Stay away from this toy.
TONGUE VIBRATOR REVIEWS
TONGUE TEASER ORAL VIBRATOR
Wow, users hated this toy – raged filled reviews of how it kept slipping off the tongue, didn’t have the power they wanted, and that many died after a few minutes.
Add all that with the fact that sellers SAY it’s silicone, but users commented on the jelly-like consistency, chemical smell, and melting/bleeding of oily substances.
0/10 – Danger, danger, danger
LICK IT! TONGUE VIBE
Take everything I just said for the tongue teaser and apply it here, silicone lies and all.
I will add something else though, I’m astounded how people are angry that it doesn’t last hours or multiple uses. For $7 you’re clearly buying a one-time-use product. What I can understand is people getting pissed when it dies after 3 minutes.
0/10 – Burn it with fire
TONGUE STAR PLEASURE VIBE
Instead of contending with a ring that won’t stay in place, the Tongue Star goes for more of a dental/sports mouth guard instead – although users say it can still slip out of place.
However, if it’s actually made from silicone (like they claim) it’s one of the better options out there, even if it makes you look kind of silly while wearing it.
VERDICT: 7/10 (if it’s silicone)
PINK TONGUE VIBE
We’re scraping the bottom of the barrel if TPE rubber ends up a viable option. But I guess beggars can be choosers.
Pink Tongue has a simple design. I can see the ring not staying on the tongue that well, but 7 euros isn’t anything to turn your nose up at.
VERDICT: 5/10 – It’s trying its best
TONGUE JOY
The makers of this toy were definitely thinking outside the box – there are three rings of different sizes, so you can use them around your tongue, penis, whatever. Also, there are two barbell accessories if anyone has pierced tongues.
If Tongue Joy is really 100% silicone and the 6-month warranty stands, it’s one of the strongest contenders.
VERDICT: 7/10 – Creative and versatile
UTIMI TONGUE VIBRATOR
I’ve actually bought and reviewed an Utimi product before, so I’m pretty confident that their silicone promises are true.
The design is a long tongue, and I’m assuming the curved tips are to double as a clit vibe and a g-spot curve. Another plus is the rechargeable battery – the 10-speed vibe version was decent (especially for the price) and I’ll hazard to say it’s probably okay here too.
VERDICT: 8/10 – Affordable and worth trying
DR JOEL KAPLAN TONGUE VIBRATOR
When you have an entire handle to house your components, you’re able to have significantly better vibrations, which is the case with Dr. Joel’s Flicking Vibe.
Positives include a general liking for the strength and flicking motions as well as being easy(ish) to hold, body-safe materials, and waterproofness. Negatives are “ugly packaging”, “displeasing design”, limited speed settings, and a loud, greedy motor that will burn through your batteries fast.
The last two I can understand. However, as much as it’s nice to have a “pretty” toy when you’re having an orgasm, you really don’t care about toy ascetics.
VERDICT: 8/10 – Better for power queens
RED HOT FLICKERING TONGUE VIBE
Red Hot is similar to Dr. Joel, in that there is a motor that vibrates the housing, but it also causes the flexible end to flick back and forth. Granted, it’s not going to feel like an actual tongue (which is impossible with the current technology), but it still looks fun.
There are also similar pros and cons to Joel’s version but there’s also a handful of instances where users say the (rechargeable) battery poops out after a couple of months.
VERDICT: 8/10 – Strong, rechargeable, but keep your receipt just in case
MINI MARVELS MARVELOUS FLICKER
Next in line is one of the Mini Marvels – and there doesn’t seem to be a lot of people don’t like about it. Aside from Amazon reviews, there are some personal reviews from sex toy bloggers. Power, charging, sensations, packaging … the ladies seem very happy.
The one setback (for some) might be the price tag – upwards of sixty dollars (or less if you have a discount code). However, you get what you pay for, and. hopefully, the increase in price makes this a good toy.
VERDICT: 9/10 – Would give it a try
VOLTA FLICKERING TONGUE
Finally, we have our high-end Volta vibe from Fun Factory (over $150). And, like the Mini Marvel, it’s also meant for internal stimulation. There are several patterns and vibration levels. It’s also made of silicone and waterproof.
In general, it feels like a safe bet, but I am a bit concerned over the lopsided-ness of the charging versus battery life – 45 minutes of play and 5-6 hours of charging … YIKES.
VERDICT: 8/10 – For those with extra cash
CONCLUSION
Looking at the choices out there, it feels like the tongue ring vibrators are the loser in the equation since there’s next to nothing on the market that makes it past the “one-time-use” or “novelty” category.
Aside from unsafe materials and bad motor performance, the rings themselves don’t seem to stay on the tongue.
My opinion? If you want vibes while performing oral sex, just buy a decent bullet vibrator and multitask with your hands as you’re licking (which you should be doing anyway).
However, if you want a sex toy that “flicks or flickers” then the second category will have FAR better options for you. If nothing on this list caught your eye, I would suggest scrolling through Fun Factory or LoveHoney for other tongue vibrators.
