Teledildonics 101 – Learn About Emerging Sex Tech & Orgasm Gizmos

If you’re into sex toys, or tech, or both, you might have heard the term “teledildonics” floating around the internet.

What are they?

Without the tech vocabulary, it means, “sex toys with computer chips in them that can be controlled through the internet for remote masturbation”.

THE LONGER DESCRIPTION

They are devices that create a telepresent experience (using any tech to make someone feel like they are really there) through vibrations, compressions, and stroking.

This is done by using haptic technology (recreating touch through force, vibrations, and motions) which sends and receives tactile data between toys.

Haptic feedback is used in many other areas such as gaming. The Nintendo Switch uses vibrations through the controllers to create a more immersive feeling for users. Many console controllers feature simple rumble packs as well.

THE HISTORY OF TELEDILDONICS

The term was first coined in 1975 by Ted Nelson in his book Computer Lib / Dream Machines, which referred to remote sex with real sensations that were transmitted through computers via telephone lines.

Aside from concepts in various works of fiction, the idea of “cybersex” became a hot topic during the 90’s AIDS/HIV “panic” where people discussed “sex without secretions”. However, affordable, non-clunky products didn’t come out until later.

2004 Sinulator (now-defunct) made a rabbit vibrator you could connect to your computer

2007 – A Japanese Company, Segment Inc., made a male and female toy (still connected directly to the computer)

Segment Toys. Yep, the male toy looks like a bowling ball.

2007 Xcite!Touch application allowed two compatible sex toys to connect over Second Life.

2008 – The RealTouch company launched as a subsidiary of Adult Entertainment Broadcast Network with a male masturbator that would sync with porn. Streaming video was later abandoned for proprietary tech.

2009 Lovense released a vibrating remote controllable through Skype

2011 – The iMan and the iLady was the first male and female connectable toys

2012 RealTouch released the JoyStick female toy

2013 – Zeus and Her by Lovepalz was introduced

2013 – Max and Nora were released with state of the art bidirectional controls as well as apps and Bluetooth connections

2013 TO PRESENT – Several other products hit the market, including toys from OhMiBod, We-Vibe, Kiiroo, and Lovense

HOW DO THEY CONNECT?

Each company has its own software which allows users to control their toy either through a Bluetooth connection or a specific phone app. Check out the video below for an example.

WHAT CAN THEY DO?

Depending on the programming, there are usually several features available:

  • LEVEL CONTROLS – Altering vibrations with the aid of a “slider” bar
  • PROGRAM PATTERNS – Some apps allow you to publically upload your patterns
  • AUDIO CONTROL – Your voice controls the vibrations
  • MUSIC CONTROL – Sync your toy to the beats of your playlist our club mix
  • TACTILE REACTIONS  Sensors on one toy will translate the movements to another toy
  • CHAT TOOLS – Can be used anytime, with or without using the toy
  • VIDEO CONNECTIONS – So you can see your partner as you play

USES FOR REMOTE MASTURBATORS

1. LONG-DISTANCE RELATIONSHIPS

Connectivity isn’t a substitute for having your partner beside you, but for those who have to endure weeks or months apart, it’s the best/easiest way to close the intimacy gap (when watching Skype masturbation isn’t enough anymore).

The biggest issue is finding a toy set that works for that person’s body type and preferences, and since all products (from any company) will set you back a couple hundred dollars, it’s not always a feasible investment.

2. CAM GIRLS/GUYS

Workers can earn money from the safety of their own home with the aid of connectable toys. Depending on each toys function, cam actors can set a “tip” amount that will allow a viewer (usually in a private show) to control the toy.

For example, if a girl is using Nora rabbit vibrator and a guy wants to turn up the power and add rotation, he would have to pay more.

Take it a step further, if he was to buy the male toy sleeve and she had the compatible female toy, any of his movements would translate to her toy – he would essentially be getting her off and completing the fantasy of having “sex” with the model.

3. LGBT COMMUNITY

It’s not ONLY about male and female toys connecting to each other. There are a handful of toy sets that allow F/F and M/M interactivity.

4. PUBLIC PLAY ENTHUSIASTS

You don’t have to be miles apart to enjoy the perks of teledildonics. You also don’t have to stick to the “two toys” aspect. Any of these products can be used on their own and controlled by the same, corresponding app. If it’s a “wearable” toy (meaning it will stay IN while you’re up and walking around), one person can wear the toy while they’re outside the bedroom while the other person controls it – imagine going to a concert, wearing a love egg, then having the “sync to music” setting on. Good times.

EXPERIMENTATION WITH TELEDILDONICS

First, the porn industry is currently trying to integrate teledildonics with VR adult videos. Things are still glitchy, expensive (you’d have to buy an Oculus Rift or something), and filming these is a bitch. Give it a couple of years.

Second, two French API programmers used Lovense products to host three experiments…

  • Connecting Lush to a GPS system that tracks the International Space Station – Whenever the ISS passes over France, the toy will vibrate.
  • Using a brainwave program, they made a sex toy vibrate with their minds.
  • Linking a Twitter hashtag command to a toy, so whenever someone tweeted it, the toy would vibrate (while a cam model was wearing it)

Keep an eye out for more developments in the teledildonics field. Things can only get better!  And, if you find anything interesting, share in the comments!
